I only have a few days in Bangkok so I want to allot it well. I wnat to spend one day just shopping. Would it be a wiser choice to just check out the Siam Center/MBK area or is it really worth it to go to the Chatuchak weekend market? are they far from each other or can I visit both areas in one day? Thanks!

  1. I would suggest first go visit Chatuchak. Definitely well worth it. If you still feel like more shopping, go later to MBK. But I think half a day on Chatuchak is a pretty good workout.

Best time to visit is early in the morning.

  2. Well, at this time of year when its hot and humid, the air-conditioned premises like MBK/Siam Paragon and the like would be more comfortable. Moreover the stuff you get there in Chatuchak can be found elsewhere  and so if it were left to me I would settle for comfort.

  3. If you go to Chatuchak you have to do it on a Saturday or Sunday morning, the afternoon will be too hot.   This market is off a Skytrain stop.  Some things you can get cheaper from street vendors on Sukhumvit or Phetchaburi Road.   It might be worth a quick look.

MBK, also off a Skytrain stop, is so large you could spend 2 or 3 days there - but it is air conditioned and Chatuchak is not.

Siam Center and other malls will have lots of stuff for sale but the prices may not be a "bargain!"   It depends on what you are looking for - for cheap clothing knock-offs then I would choose a street vendor on Phetchaburi Road, near the Baiyoke Tower Hotel (mini garment center.)   For computers and electronics MBK and/or Panthip Plaza.  For real brand name items go to a mall.

Can you do two places in one day - yes - but you might find what you are looking for closer to your hotel right from a street vendor.   Street vendors on Sukhumvit, near Nana Skytrain stop, are still open at 8-10 pm.

    Good luck.

  4. yes, it is a must to visit.  overflowing with souvenirs, food, clothes, art... It’s a great experience even for non-shoppers, and really easy to get to on the Skytrain. Very interesting, but it can be very hot and crowded.

you can also visit Suan-Lum Night Bazaar, if you want to avoid being too hot.  you can find lots of souvenirs, local food and beer. Open daily from late afternoon until midnight. Next to MRT Lumphini station, Great place to eat and hang out in at night.  If you need more info about Thailand, try this http://www.discovery-thailand.com .  Have a nice trip!

  5. You can reach all of these places by Skytrain.  JJ's is cowarded and hot and humid.  Bargins are not that much  better then anywhere else in Bangkok.  Siam Center/MBK and Pratrunam area would be fine.

  6. If you want to buy wholesale then Jatujak is good..With more marchadises you can get cheaper price same as Platinum pratunam.

MBK and siam square aren't that cheap but have many nice stuffs espacially Jeans are cheap like12 euro or so. when in europe are 100 euro :)

In platinum Pratunam you will find many girly dresses kind to buy. in Mbk the shopping choice is more.

In jatujak if you have good eyes you get good things.

  7. Yes definitely! Although the items they sell are pretty much sold anywhere, it's still very cheap.  It's actually where a lot of small business antique/souvenir shop owners from all over the world purchase their goods for a bargain.  But then again, they buy in bulks.  I did find really great and unique bargains over there.  Just make sure you bring plenty of water and a fan because it could get really stuffy in there!

  8. no- you can and should do both - they're reachable by the BTS train - only a few stations apart.

It'd be great to see the two opposites- the heat, the crowds, the madness of Chatuchek, and the elegance, sopistocated grace of Siam Paragon or Central.

  9. Chatuchak is definitely worth the visit, although as someone who lives in Bangkok you won't catch me there again, I can't stand the place. There are things there that aren't available elsewhere in Bangkok, although MBK/Siam offers most of the type of things you can buy at the Weekend Market and a lot of things you can't buy at Chatuchak. It is very easy to go to both Chatuchak and the MBK/Siam area in one day by Skytrain, about a 10-15 minute Skytrain ride away from each other. Chatuchak is definitely a must see, at least once.
