I'm currently 20 years old and am in the process of getting my degree in Criminal Justice. My question is to hired police officers. What age did you get hired? Is it going to be hard for me to get hired at 21 ? And what kinds of preparations can I do to maybe give me an edge in the hiring process. I reside in Chicago so of course I would want to work in my home town and help protect its citizens but I am willing to travel and help out in other towns.

  1. It should not be difficult to be hired as a police officer when you are 21. There are many other factors that are considered when hiring a police officer. Education is one of them. Getting a degree will truly benefit you. Some things to focus on are getting good grades, maintaining a good reputation, and being physically fit, etc. Check out http://www.peaceofficerjobs.com for excellent advice about becoming a police officer.

  2. I was hired two months after my 22nd birthday - and we have some guys hired at 21.

Your age does not restrict you as much as your past history, test and interview ability, and character.
