  1. I'm just back from Melbourne in July and august, and I visited them both

they were as good as in the summer. Except bring lots of clothes for the Puffing Billy there aren't any windows.

  2. July is the coldest month in Melbourne. If you are from a colder climate that may not worry you too much, but pretty much any other time of year would be more comfortable for the activities you are interested in.

If you get a fine day, Puffing Billy is quite pleasant on a crisp winter's day.

The penguin parade occurs at dusk, and on a beach that faces on to Bass Strait. The weather can be cold and windy and you will be outdoors. Also, winter is a quieter time, with the penguins spending most of their time at sea and not coming onto land so much.

  3. The Penguin parade is good all year around except for Easter, Easter is the one time of the year when the penguin are less active, you will still see them but just not as many as you would at any other time. not only are there less at Easter they will spend far less time on the beach, which is where you get to see them, (I guess they are all in church). They get new feathers at Easter which is the real reason.
