savings? This does include the possibility of the person taking out loans or anything to cover expenses. Also this person would get a job shortly after moving out (maybe a week or two later).

Is this possible, if yes how?

P.S. I didn't know what category to put this under because It's a social issue but also involves some number crunching (so bare with me on the category choice)

  1. I did that when I was 21 and had to relocate to finish college. I was fine, but I had two roommates, and I did find a job within the first couple of weeks that I lived on my own. Just don't let your kid get into trouble with credit cards like I did!

  2. The number crunching alone paints a bleak picture, but many other concerns come to mind as well. You did not mention the age of your child, but if eligible to negotiate and sign for a loan, presumably he/ she is in his/her majority.

You and your offspring need to have a  solid plan in place previous to any migration away from the warm and comfortable nest.

A couple of hundred dollars in the current economy is tip money: in no way is it nearly sufficient to begin life on his/her own.

Is there an extant housing arrangement? Who will pay for it and how? How will he/she manage until the first paycheck comes in? Who will be responsible for the discharge of any (inevitable) indebtedness? Telecommunication? Transportation? Maintenance and repairs/replacements?

You and your young'un need to have a serious, mature and objective discussion before a nuby gets launched into the do it yourself world. There are many places on the web and in the social services sector where good information relative to the number crunching and other concerns can be obtained.

I hope that you and yours will avail yourselves of some objective data before you decide on the next move.

  3. You don't say where you leave so I'm going to make a few assumptions. First, I think if they had a roommate to share move in costs and other expenses. They would still need a loan to help with move in costs. Around here move in costs can be first, last and deposit...or just first and deposit. There is also temp jobs they can do while waiting to work. Even after they start work, they'll have to wait a week or two for a paycheck.
