  1. Not necessary at all.It completely depends on you.

  2. One can tip if he/she feels like tipping and he/she can afford it. If you don't mind spending some extra money and feel that the waiter needs to be appreciated for his/her work then go ahead and tip.

Generally I am against the policy of compulsory tipping whre tipping is expected (especially in most of the western countries). The waiter is doing his/her job and has accepted the job being fully aware of the remuneration. There is no point is expecting tips - if some one is tipping then fine but if someone doesn't then the waiter should not feel upset and show anger.

Also, make sure the tip you give goes to the waiter who served you and not to a pool. In the case of a pool, the collection is distributed depnding upon the seniority (in most cases) and the waiter who actually served you mighy very well end up getting a small percentage of the tip that you gave him / her.

  3. Only if you see the locals tip in restaurants.

  4. You should give tips to any resturant you visit unless it is asked by the resturant authority to not give tips. And in India you must give tip because the wages are so little(I am talking about the general resturant and not of the star resturant) and commodity price is rising so high that if we dont give them a little extra it would be hard for them to meet the daily basic needs of their family and will  you like your food to be served by a half starved person. Think .............

The law of universe also say the more you give the more you get.

  5. Well mostly yes... unless they serve you live rattle snakes when you had asked for Chicken Tikka or Masala Dosa!!! ;-)

  6. Varies greatly and depends on the type of resturants. Always ask around in any location as to what is the norm and what the locals do,

Do not spoil or upset them by giving way more or way less than what is conventional depending on the type of the establishment.

  7. if u give tips to the person working in the resturant

the person working in that resturant will expect tips form other customers also

some people have excess amount of money give to him tips

but middle class people coming to resturant cant give tips but the workers expect money from them also it will disappoint them

so dont do the practice of giving tips to others

  8. not necessary but if you gave them they feel good once sultan of brunei gave a tip of RS 1 lakh to waiter

  9. I never give tips. Why to pay extra? I never bargain at eating shop.

A lady to staff at Shoe shop: Rs. 450/-. I will pay 400/-

She in rail: 450/-, high. I am giving 500/-, refund me 50/-.

She in restaurant: Bill 450/-, Note of 500/-, keep the change.

    Why 3 attitutes?

  10. Just like most places in the world. Yes you should tip. All those who don't tip are considered cheap skates. You tip according to your capablity and experience at the restaurant.

There is a simple saying" If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford food at that restaurant"

When i was at the Delhi University with limited financial means, we still tipped the canteen  guys. We ate in cheap joints but still left Rs 5/- (few cents) or something for the poor servers.

Every one wants a tip and there is nothing wrong with hoping for one.You are never offending any waiter by tipping "too much" like some one said you might. They are paid very little salaries and hope to get tips to supplement them.

  11. i think you should

especially because its india...that tip might be too little for you but sumtimes even 1 ruppee is too much for the lower class...such as waiters..they work so hard, they deserve a tip

  12. No.  Tipping in India is optional, solely based on your judgment and experience. Tipping is usually done in restaurants when you pay the bill. Ideally, you are supposed to tip 10% of the bill.
