Question:

Is it ridiculous to ask for a 16 year old to drive to Charlotte to go to a concert?

I recently have won a pair of tickets to go to John Mayer in Charlotte. Now, John is my FAVORITE musician. I live in Columbia, SC, which is about an hour and a half away. My friend, who is 16, has been driving for almost two years wants to take us. Is that a lot to ask? I am obviously younger and do not understand a parents point of view. I would like some other parent opinions. And if you think this is okay, let me know how to convince them.

Ps; we are both honor roll students, no wrecks or tickets...etc etc

  1. i wouldn't let my son go or even see john mayer

  2. I would not let my daughter either... However, try to convince them to drive you.  I would do that.  Look up restaurants or something in the area that may interest your mom & dad to help your cause.

  3. WOW John Mayer!!! My Celebrity crush

You two are very young, I think that you should have an adult chaperone, not an 18 year old but the youngest a very responsible, mature 25 year old, I would say have your parent, aunt, uncle older cousin, or sibling chaperone you, even if they can not drive have them tag along.

I would not let my son or daughter go alone at 16.

This does not seem like a big deal, but you won't be able to understand your parent's anxiety until you have a child of your own.

Ask one of your parents to chaperone, don't miss the concert.

    Have fun!!!

  4. I would never allow my daughter to drive to a concert in a city an hour and a half away with a 16 year old driver but I would drive her myself......she wouldn't even have to give me one of her tickets......I'd wait in the car.

  5. I think its fine if shes offering just cut the cost for gas and if there is a ticket agree to cut that cost too. i don't know how maybe ask them why they don't want to let you go and you might be able to do something that way

  6. I'd ask one of your parents to drive, at 16 I got really tired from just driving an hour, driving tired is almost as bad as driving drunk because you're not very aware. How old are you? Some concerts don't allow kids to go by themselves so you might have to have someone 18+ to go with you guys. I would NOT miss that concert, I'm jealous that ya'll are going! =] Good luck!

  7. im not sure what your asking...are you asking about whether you should ask your friend to take you? or if you think your parents will let you go?

i dont see why your friend wouldnt..you are friends and it would be a free concert for him.

but if you were my kid asking to go to a concert by yourself..an hour and a half away...then the answer would be NO..reason being ( i go to concerts quite often out of town mind you) is that one traffic is horrible in most cases going to a concert. 2..lots of c**p happens at concerts, fights drugs, ect..no matter what kind of concert they are. either one you wouldnt be going at all or you would have to have some kind of adult with you ( one that your parents trust)

    thats just my opinion though.

  8. If it were my daughter, I would probably say no. Traffic is pretty crazy around concerts, and there are tons of people who are drunk/high that are driving. It's not a good situation for an inexperienced driver, IMO.

  9. As long as both parents are fine with what should it matter?

I love how all parents complain about the traffic.   But every releized your part of the reason there is traffic?

  10. If you are also 16 I would allow you to go.  However, any younger than that I would say that you need an adult to go with you. If you were my child I would also go off of how much trust I had for you.  If you have never given me any reason to doubt you, for example (no lieing, cheating on a test, or breaking house rules), and I thought that you had good judgement, I would let you go.  As for convincing them to let you go, tell them how you have never given them any reason to doubt you.

  11. yea it is
