I have been prtty lucky in the fact i have never had a cricket bat break on me, however i bought a new one 3 weeks ago and after 2 net sessions a sizable cack has developed on the toe, i havent really had many yorkers and there is no damage or impact surrounding the crack. this is a top grade bat and was wondering if ti should crack, it has been knocked in, what are my rights with thesupplier in this? will i be able to get it replaced or repaired?

  1. has the crack gone all the way through? Have you oiled it much because without oil they can become brittle and break more easily. You hopfully wont get anymore cracks. Last season at the begining of the season my new bat cracked but not all the way though. It continued to get more smaller cracks but did not seem to effect it and it's ok.

  2. Even if a bat is pre-knocked in, in reality you still need to give it a knock in yourself as nowdays the cricket companies just use machines to press them. What you should do is light throwdowns with a cricket ball and slowly graduate to facing bowling. However if a crack has appear very quickly you may as well go to the shop and enquire whether it can be repaired. the only thing they can say is no so you might as well

  3. When I bought a bat, my coach would take it and oil it then tap the surface with a special hammer. This case-hardened the surface and my bats lasted a considerable time.

If the shop sold you a bat that was ready for play, then I think that you have grounds for complaint. I should write to the makers and explain what has happened, stressing that you never expected that one of their bats would crack after such a short time. If you make the tone of your letter reasonable, stressing that you bought the bat only because it was of their make and was supported by their reputation, I think that thye might be accommodating.

If you had struck the ground with it, I should havew thougfht that the bat would have cracked at the handle.

  4. you have to make sure and knock the bat in again, even if it says its been pre knocked in, concentrate on knocking in the toe and egdes to make sure it doesnt happen your next bat, for the one you have you could try getting it sent away to be refurbished and they should fix up the crack

  5. when the bat says pre-nocked in it means it had a little nock int to make the bat look smart and look like its worth alot it still doesnt mean its fully knocked in or the bat wood is fake and you bought it dogey
