  1. Most of the time when you enroll your child in a childcare or preschool facility, you will receive a parent handbook and a general orientation (whether formal or informal) to the guidelines and expectations.

If a child repeatedly opens a door that is off-limits, the safety of the other children in the facility or home becomes compromised.  As far as keeping doors locked, this is not always an option as two fire exits must be available in most (if not all) childcare settings.

The handbook should detail behavior guidelines and more than likely says something about repeated disregard for safety rules.  There should also be information regarding how non-compliance will be handled.  If a child has been expelled according to the set-forth policies, a parent really has no recourse.  If; however, the childcare provider does not have this information in place according to the state regulations, a parent may have a legitimate complaint.

On a final note: child care providers are among the hardest working and lowest paid individuals in the United States.  Legitimate complaints may be filed with the local child care licensing bureau after attempting to correct the dispute directly with the facility Director.

The telephone number for the National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care and Early Education is 1(800) 598-KIDS (5437).

  2. of course not! those peoples jobs are suposed to watch the kids exspecialy the younger ones. i think you should go back to that daycare and ask for a logical and significant reason!

  3. NO WAY! Did that happen to your child? Oh my gosh I am so sorry!

  4. um

no. is it a shame for a person to learn new things and develop their cognitive and social behaviors? i dontthink so

slap the day care center ok. take up to their establishemnt and pull that company apart.

  5. No, they have gadgets that people can put on doors to prevent kids from opening them, that is no reason to kick your child out of daycare.

  6. Uh, no! Not if that is the ONLY reason.

The children shouldn't be ABLE to open the doors. The doors should be made so they physically can only be opened by adults.

No child should be kicked out before a meeting is held to discuss, find, and try solutions.

(In all my years of working in day care, the only child I know who was kicked out was 4 yrs old and snuck a lighter to daycare and set the couch on fire. He was physically abusive to other children, among other problems we'd tried to work with. The couch was the last straw!)

  7. of course no. It is their responsibility to keep doors locked properly. Still a 2 year old should not be kicked out. There is something else. you can sue the place, it sounds to me like discrimination

  8. No if that is the reason why then they are just being lazy because they don't want to keep their eyes on him and watch him with the doors

  9. no, that is not a good reason at all.

  10. Yes that makes it very unsafe for the child as well as the other children watching 10 preschooler at one time is a hard job even watching 5 will make u go crazy u can tell by these people answers that they never worked with kids. If the kid keeps on opening the stupid door he could hurt himself and others in the daycare nobody wants to be resposible when someone kid gets hurt cuz if u think about it the peron in charge is gunna get burned/ will be at fault for what that stupid kid did

  11. nope, they have 1 job at a daycare, watch little kids.

  12. No its not right I would look further into it then seek legal advice

  13. No not at all! This isn't something you should be kicked out of preschool for this is what someone should be praised for!I would talk to the people at the daycare and tell them that.If you were really worried you could probably go to court about it.

  14. This seems a little odd.  I, personally, do not agree with kicking a child out of daycare...especially at two years old.  Yes, there are times where we can't meet the needs of a child but never do we "kick" them out.  We work with the parents to see what we can do and if it still isn't working out we help them find other care.

Now back to opening doors.   Most two year olds can open doors...that is why child locks were created.  Also, 2 year olds can learn quite quickly that there are certain doors they are not welcome to open.  So this leads me to believe there has been other situations leading up to this?  Time to discuss this with the director...a good child care will have everything documented and will be willing to discuss this with you.  If they aren't willing...maybe it is time to find new child care. Good luck.

  15. h**l naw!

there must be another reason why?!

  16. nope not at all, they should have something on the doors that can stop them. Plus they should be keeping an eye on them.... sounds to me like their lazy and you should find a new day care anyway.....

  17. no. that is absurd.

the older kids can open doors.

i hated daycare it sucked. stupid daycares. ewww

anyways, um yeah, i would find a better daycare.

  18. NO and I believe it is a against the law.

There is a duty of care on the daycare not on the child in relation to this.

  19. Well, if it's a private daycare, then, they can do whatever they want

  20. ****, what a shame .The daycare authorities are shameless people. It is their duty to provide the lock and bolt to the door properly.

Dont worry There are plenty of other kids centres all around

  21. No it is not right!

  22. It's not right for the reason solely that he can open doors, but if a child is doing things that the daycare providers can't control that is making the environment unsafe for other children, then I can understand it.

  23. I wouldn't want my 2 year old in a daycare that doesn't have some type of locking device on doors and cabinets.  Consider it to be a blessing!

  24. No. This is not good at all. Beat the hitter.
