Is it right that well paid celebs and sportsmen/women receive gongs and knighthoods?

These people are so well rewarded for doing a job, which most of them enjoy. Obviously those who perform duties and charitable works outside their sphere of work do deserve some other recognition. Just giving a knighthood or a gong to someone who has 'entertained the nation for 20 years' or some such thing is not on. after all during this period they have probably amassed a personal fortune anyway doing just that.

Keep the gongs for those who have earned them.

  1. If you are prepared to kneel in front of a monarch armed with a sword, and trust that she doesn't do away with your head, then you're a bloody fool. One of these days, a knighthood will turn into a blood-bath. Hopefully with Gordon Ramsay's head rolling across the royal carpet, like a swearing football.

  2. they might have earned them by giving to the labour party!

  3. If your talking about Sir Paul , shame on you.

  4. Depends what they do off the field or TV as alot do charity work and support groups which helps.

Some can be role models too and receive gongs etc for them reasons for people to look up to.

  5. I'm sorry, but perhaps if certain people could sing and act as well as they're made out to (coughfuckingkyliecough), then yes, they probably deserve it.

What gets me is that real musical legends like Jeff Lynne, who write, produce and perform all their own stuff haven't even had a sniff in recent years. Kylie is nothing but a corporate w***e, what's commendable about that? If it's a breast cancer sympathy award, then where's the OBEs for my neighbour, my stepmother, my friend's mother and anyone else who had to go through it poor and via the NHS. Kylie can stick it up her bony backside.

Also, the betch isn't even British! I don't care if her grandparents were Welsh - it doesn't make her British!

Send the betch back to where she came from!!

  6. No it's not right. It's hardly a contribution to society or technology.

  7. I agree with all you say.

    What are celebrities anyway?

We pay them obscene amounts of money for doing nothing really useful - and even doing that badly in a lot of cases.

So why are awards and honours necessary and why will stupid people stand in the pouring rain to see a so-called celebrity get out of a car and walk into a theatre?

It never ceases to amaze me !

  8. they pay for them
