Question:

Is it right to say Black or Dark skin?

As the black wears cohesion to create a barrier rather adapting Dark skin to serve right.

But I do feel the term African American, is both not always accurate, and one of the worst terms to promote segregation.

  1. You make zero sense.

  2. Why do the person has to be referred to as of their color.  I am sure there is some other way to describe  the person. EX:  Why come not just say the person in  whatever clothing they are wearing.

  3. Watch out. The PC police may be reading your question, and

both of those terms have been classified as politically incorrect. I just wonder what the replacement for "African-American" will be when it's term of correctness has expired.

  4. Are you talking about in news broadcasts and stories?

You can use either Black or African-American.

Black is primarily the term used though, in AP Style anyway.

  5. "Dark skin?" That sound as bad as "paleface".

"African American" or "Black" are the correct terms accepted and promoted by the U.S. black community. So try not to get too creative.

  6. I agree, African American is politically incorrect, especially when describing a black non-African (Jamacian for example) person.

Then again, any one term to define a person promotes segregation. Black American would probably be more acceptable than "Dark-skinned American."

And to that, simplying calling one American instead of using the segregation-influced adjectives should be more than acceptable. (Black, white, chinese, Indian, etc)

  7. Yes Habitant! well said, I have tried to find

phrases to describe this perception of

"African American" and you could'nt have

said it better in this question! when people

are Bi-racial, mixed with any other race ex-

cept one or the other, they can't be class-

ified as one, no matter what colour skin they

might show, it's simply a mixed race either

way we see it, the blood line is in question

so how is it one or the other! but where ig-

norance is bliss it is folly to be wise, no one

needs to explain his or her ethnic group to be accepted or rejected, as people it's

who we are, instead of what the colour is.

We should only be concerned so deeply

for colour issues when we view paintings

or art work, it should have no place in society but rather be a personal choice,

and not expressed in any way, shape or

form, it is impolite, and shows a lack of

education and intelligence to do so publicly.

It is OK to have an opinion, but it's an in-

sult to voice it, with such a personal matter

as colour of the skin, that's not a topic,

because some are different than others.

Love and marriage is the blame and the

    choices we make in life.

  8. Wilt Chamberlain always used to say that he liked the phrase "people of color." He thought it had a certain dignity to it.

Me, I like to call people what they want to be called. It's all about dignity and respect.

  9. Why say anything other than HUMAN BEING - there's only one race -the HUMAN RACE - so referring to anyone by their skin colour is wrong, as this goes further than anything else to promote segregation when we should be promoting good relationships and peace.

  10. African American is not a correct term.. because most of the dark skinned / black people here in the U.S. are not from Africa.. they were born here in the U.S. so they would be Americans.. nothing African about them.. do we call white Africans that come to America, African Americans? i agree with the term "people of color"..
