  1. My son has his but keeps it in his locker. He did get caught once for having it in class and I told him that if he took it to class again I would take it from him. If students kept them in their lockers it isn't a problem. But, many do not keep them in their lockers. I also think that teachers should not have their phones with them while teaching class. Mine is turned off and kept in my purse. I check it at lunch. If their is an emergency, they call the office and the office gets in touch with me.

  2. Yes. At my school we were aloud to have cellphones. And use them before and after school. During lunch. And passing period.

some kids texting during class but it wasn't that big of a deal.

  3. While in school?  No.

Any other time?  I think it is the discretion of the parents.  Some students walk home alone and having a phone for emergencies is good.  If your parents do get you a phone, remember to use it responsibly, otherwise when you ask for the car...good luck!

  4. Sure, as long as it doesn't interfere with their learning. And as long as they don't whip it out during class time and start texting their friends. They should only have the cell for emergencies, but you know how kids are tempted to fool around with the cellies.

  5. it's OK to have mobile phones while we are at school. it is helpful especially if we have to go for tutions or something . what if we get lost ? just a phone call - our  parents can come to pick us.

  6. yes and no. It depends on the childrens. Handphones are used to communicate themselves with their parents when needed and not to sms to their friends . Cases of Cheating (sms answer to friends) have increased gradually when childrens bring handphone to school.  It also "promote" thefts in school as some students like to brag about the latest model of handphone their parent have brought for them.

  7. As a parent of a teenage daughter, I find her cell phone invaluable.  I don't like the idea of her keeping her phone in locker for fear of it being stolen.  As a teacher, I find my students' cell phones annoying, and I wish they'd keep them in their lockers. The biggest problem with students and cell phone is TEXT MESSAGING.

How a student cannot make it through a 50 minute period without sending a text message to their friend is baffling.  To risk a Saturday school?

If a student has a cell phone in school, in their possession, it should be turned OFF.  Not silent, not vibrate, but OFF.  I have given my students the opportunity to turn the phone off if they forget to, but I'm thinking of rescinding that policy, because they take advantage.  Everybody "forgets".  I might amend it a little, and only allow first and second hour students to turn the phone off.  If by third hour you still haven't turned your phone off, I think its safe to assume you were using the phone.

  8. As long as they aren't using them during class - they should be listening or doing their work then.  I am a teacher, and I will only take their phone away if they are using it during class.  Sometimes a ringer will go off because they forgot and I won't take it then because that is what happens to me.  The important thing is that I follow these same guidelines for myself because I shouldn't be using my phone in class either.

  9. Students need to remove the distractions from learning.  This includes cell phones.  Cell phones need to be off during the school day (including lunch and between classes).  Students using cell phones are missing out on much of the educational and social aspects of school.  Many are only associating with people they already know.

  10. At my school they are really strict about cellphones. I got a cellphone for emergencies and because sometimes I don't know who is picking me up from school. There are more things to it, but my cellphone really comes in handy at school.
