  1. No it is not rude if it is your friend.  If you are playing with strangers, first get to know them and try to figure out if they have a handicap before you ask because most weekend golfers don't  have a handicap and can get embarrassed by you asking... or they will just lie and the answer won't do you any good.

  2. Of course not.   If you want to compete, play with the one with the same handicap range with you.

    Good players: 1-9

    Mid handicap: 10-20

High handicap (weekend golfers) : 21-28

  3. I don't think it's rude. It's is actually quite helpful if you are planning to play together.  A very good player can find playing with a slower, less experienced player very frustrating and vice versa.

  4. No!! At a country club handicaps are common knowledge and no one should be embarrased except the " sandbagger " whose handicap is purposely high so he cannot lose. If I am about to place small wagers on the game, I would like to evaluate my chances. Otherwise, I"ll make a donation to my favorite charity.

  5. no its just a way to know how good someone is.  do yo find it weird to ask someone how many horses their car has. its just a tool to see what level people play at.  do keep in mind that most people do not fully understand the handicap system and do not know theirs so they are usually wrong and misleading.  but they are only important if yo play in a tournament or for money.

  6. No it's not rude.  I don't believe half of the recreational golfers play with a registered handicap anyway.

  7. if your a woman then yes

  8. Its not rude at all, especially if you plan to play with them and make a few wagers. Some people don't carry a handicap and may feel like a person who does is a bit pretentious about their game.  I don't feel like it's a judgment about how well you play, but rather a measure of how seriously you take your game.

  9. Your golf handicap is considered public information, at least among the other members of your golf club. My club has a sheet posted every week with everyone's handicap.
