  1. Delusional you ? Maybe ?

  2. Dame means Lady in French, so no it wouldn't be rude.

  3. I am British and I'm not offended, it's not offensive but it would be if you added the letters DBE (Dame of the Order of the British Empire) after your name.

  4. Yeah it would be considered rude, being a dame is a royal privilege. Ahh i hate the royal family

  5. kinda sounds a bit stupid to call yourself that if your not one.............

  6. satup you fool

  7. There is nothing like a dame, nothing in the world.....

As you're not British it's ok you don't have to abide by our 'rules'.

I am British and I am not offended.

Infact Dame Gypsywoman has a nice ring to it.

  8. No not rude, it would be `misrepresentation` or worse if you did it  for financial gain. However there is nothing stopping you from legally changing your name to `Dame` Smith from Jill Smith for example. I seem to recall that President Johnson's` wife's name was `Lady `Bird Johnson, it was her real name. It would all be rather silly though don`t you think?

  9. if its a joke thn no

  10. Is it rude to call yourself Dr. when you don't have a PhD?

  11. Not really, in england some people are touchy but some aren't x

  12. It's quite rude, unless it's very obvious you're joking.

In a british context, it can be regarded as usurping a title, plain and simple.

out of the British isles... it doesn't have that charge, but older people have been introduced to English through film noir, so they'll know that your claims notwithstanding, you ain't no dame, m'lady.

  13. you can call yourself countess of Pumpernickel castle.. nobody will mind.. I sure won't.. if it makes you happy.. you could adopt ''Dame as a first name..''  in Britain it's not forbidden if a parent wants to call his son '' Prince or Lord.. as a first name. that's legitimate and he could call you Princess or Lady.. ..'people would probably think someone is crazy but it's absolutely legitimate to do that.. but then one has to live with the consequences of probably being made fun of.. but you are entitled to calll yourself that.. for fun....x*x

  14. No, - of course not. In fact you can perfectly legally change your name, and make "Dame:" your first one.

I think most people here in Britain now regard titles, double-barreled names (e.g. "jenkinson Smythe" or "ffoulkes-Phorista" and such-like) as silly relics, like Dukedoms, Earldoms, and Baronets..... Like the habit of smoking, they will inevitably just wither away in the next few years.

I regularly address letters to my daughters as "Lady ***** or  my sons as "The Hon. ****", - simply to poke fun at the pretension of it all and -more importantly, because my daughters really ARE ladies, and my sons honorable, - which is certainly questionable with some whose titles come with inheritances. !

So the more the merrier - please be a Dame..  or to coin a song-title ;- " LOOK, be a LADY, tonight!"

    {I'd sign off as Royalty, -but 'King Tich' doesn't have that certain cache, does it!... and anyway, I'd be 'King Tich the 4592 th' -  not a very select grouping.}

  15. there is classical famous tales Dame of............clock. I forgot the name. :P so i guess it is a no.
