Is it rude to hang up the phone without saying "bye"?

In some of the books I've read people will just hang up the phone without saying "bye", and it doesn't look like they're trying to be rude. For example, when someone calls a store to get information.

  1. ladybug is wrong, lots of women do it too.....

no, it's not rude, it's only being simple, nothing else

  2. YES

  3. So many people, especially men, hang up without saying anything to end the conversation.  I sometimes feel like I overdo it because I ALWAYS say goodbye.  I don't feel like the conversation is over unless I do so!

  4. There may be other appropriate words besides "Goodbye," but you need to end the call politely, one way or another.  Just hanging up when you're finished is rude.

  5. Yes this pretty basic, it is rude to hang up without ending the call.

  6. Yes it is only polite to let the other person know you are finished with the conversation.Unless your mad, then they will figure it out!

  7. i do it all the time.  but, i give it some closure, like okay talk to you later...click.

  8. Absolutely, IMO.

  9. I tend to think it is - I see it as the equivalent of talking to someone face to face then turning and walking away without saying bye - you wouldn't do that...so I wouldn't do this.

I used to work with an individual who had a habit of doing this - he'd make a phone call, make his inquiry, then say "ok/no problems/got it" then just hang up and I always thought that was rude.

  10. Haha every time I talk to my mom on the phone she does that, and I hate it. But when calling a store, I think it's fine as long as you say thank you.
