I believe they should be left at the reception desk and if it rings then the waiter can answer the call and get the owner of the phone (for important calls only) We went out to dinner recently we dont go out often and it was a luxury to go to an expensive place wellllll......the guy at the table talked realestate all night off and on ( numerous calls ) it was very annoying as he wasnt quiet about it at all ... What do you think.????

  1. ring ring I cant hear you every ones phones keep ringing, lucky you wrote your question so I can still read it.

I cant have a piece of romantic quietness to myself and loved one because of bloody mobile phones. gosh dammit!!!!!

  2. No but yelling over the mobile is bad

  3. **I'm not big on mobile phone's being used in restaurants.  If I go out I put mine on silent and if I notice that my phone is ringing I get up and go outside to answer it.  I think that is the polite thing to do.**

  4. Well whenever I'm at a restaurant, I always leave the table to answer a telephone call. It's just polite. To everyone.

  5. Well I think one should not make calls while in a restaurant but if one expects an urgent call then I believe it's alright to pick it up.. what if a surgeon wants to go out for dinner with his wife and there is an emergency at the hospital and he has to come in... or the chief of police.. some urgent matter turns up and it has to be addressed right away.. then he should have his phone on his person so that he can get an important call he may be able to save a life.. and the wife.. she will understand if she is married to a surgeon or a police inspector... xx To make personal calls especially if one has company if it's not a matter of great importance is rude...

  6. Yes, it's rude to use a mobile phone at a restaurant, and many restaurants ask patrons who do so to step outside if they need to use the phone.

A lot of people don't like to leave their phone ~ I wouldn't leave mine with the desk because I have a lot of info on it I'd hate to lose, but it's definitely not hard to switch it to 'silent' while you are out.

That would be the good mannered thing to do, as you can recive urgent calls, but will not disturb the comfort of others.

People who talk on mobiles for non-urgent reasons in public settings such as restaurants are ill mannered tools.

    Cheers :-)

  7. Yes, it's rude to the person your sitting with, and rude to all the people around who have to listen to you talk, and rude to the waitstaff who need to communicate with you!

  8. in a word? YES!!

  9. It's quite rude - there's nothing worse than you and your other half having a well deserved meal out and you've some buffoon on the next table yattering down the mobile about some mundane and trivial matter.

Yes, we both have mobiles but when we go to restaurants, cinemas, etc, we put them on to silent or switch them off altogether.

  10. Very! We get that all the time here in Reno.

  11. i dont think so

  12. Ughhh...yeah you are right it is definately very rude...

But I don't think that the receptionist should take our phones the whole time...haha...I just think that we should know what proper ettiquette is...But I don't think that will happen anytime soon...but hopefully it will...the world would be much nicer then =]

  13. some pathetic people talk loudly on the cellphones because they like to feel important and need the attention. so if anyone reading this answer is like that, YOU ARE A LOSER

  14. nah nah lol it shouldnt be becuase the waiter may steal or go into praviate things. and what happens if you get a message and the guy or girl reads them.what happens if it was an emergency call or a really pravaite call. mobile phones will go missing trust me i had work in a placve like that before and the people are really out there and yea. becuase it will make dramas becuase businness poeple have to be able to call people to be able to organise things like that man. so i think  if that had happened than mobile phones may go missing and mobile phone might be dropped by another person, or maybe a perosn might steal it so i think people should be able to have there mobile phones in a resturant for a numrous things

  15. I think if you must use your phone, you should leave the table and talk in the hallway or something. This should also make the person more aware of how inappropriate it is to be holding business calls and draw attention to the fact that they're not fulfilling their purpose of coming to the restaurant - to have a nice dinner in the perfect atmosphere. Yes I agree, it is quite rude to keep answering the phone.

  16. I think that the key lies in HOW you use your phone. In many instances I've been to a restaurant, whilst knowing that some clients and coleagues will have to get hold of me. What I did try to create the least disruption for all:

    1. I put my phone on 'silent' and 'vibrate'. When a call came in, no-one but I was aware of it.

    2. I only accepted calls that I knew was urgent.

    3. I excused myself from the table and took the call out of earshot, not only of my own companions, but everyone in the restaurant. At times this meant that I actually had to leave the restaurant, but I am sure that no one else wanted to hear my conversation.

I think if a mobile phone is used in the right way, it should not cause any incponvenience to anyone around you.

  17. The phone can be kept by the customer and put on vibrate.

If the call is so important they have to take it, I would think they would excuse themselves if seated with others  and take the call.  Yes I think it's rude, BUT if the restaurant doesn't have a rule against it there's nothing you can do about it.

It's not just out dining. some people feel compelled to chat away every where they go.  Technology does have it's drawbacks.

  18. I work at a state funded employment agency in South Texas and when the general public comes in to use our computers for job searches, one of the main rules is PLEASE PUT YOUR CELL PHONE ON VIBRATE OR TURN  IT OFF!

And we also let everyone know,"If you have to make a call OR receive a call, please get up from your chair and go out in the hallway to talk in private or take it outside".

Yet I always get that genius whothinks,"Hey,that rule doesn't apply to me". And will sit there with the loudest ringtone ever and then goes into his/her conversation like as if no onone else can hear.

In my mind I'm holding a pistol with a silencer and I'm going,"Ok,just  stand on the plastic. This won't take long".
