i currently have a rat and a guinea pig who live together, not only in the same cage but they always stay in the same little igloo i bought them them tho i have another one, but they choose not to use it, and had another rat that got along with both of them very well.i was wondering if it would be safe for both of them if i got another rat, they would be all female.im positive i have a big enough cage for them, it was my old bird cage and i added a second story to it.

  1. Please do not house the guinea pig and the rat together. Their dietary needs are completely different and they are two different species. Both rats and guinea pigs NEED same species companions. Rats and guinea pigs do not communicate on the same level. Rats are also opportunistic predators and will occasionally attack other small animals.

My recommendation would be to get your female guinea pig a female guinea pig friend and your female rat a female rat friend. Keep the two different species in their own cages.

  2. First of all I'd like to say I think it's so cool how you can get them to live together peacefully! You could get another rat, but it would be risky.  You'd have to but another cage and introduce them until it's safe to put them all together. Good luck!
