I am a college student from the University of the Philippines and am very much interested in studying in Russia to learn more about their language, culture, economy and business conditions. However, I am quite disturbed by what I have been reading and watching over the Internet about the social conditions in the country specifically racist attacks on foreign workers and students by "skinheads" or neo-n**i people. Is it really that rampant in the city? and is the government doing something to ensure the safety of foreign/exchange students?

  1. It is physically safe for a Southeast Asian student to study in Moscow. However, you might get starred at alot or get an occasional verbal abuse. I'm studying abroad there (I'm Asian as well) at the moment and the worst encounter I've had with a Russian ended up being just a few hurtful words. I've never even had a violent threat. Russia is truly a unique country and an amazing culture. I would definetly advice going there as it is a beautiful country!
