  1. I am 24 now, when I was a kid (9-15 yrs) I rode greyhound by myself every summer across several states.  Most places are fine, but in bigger cities I would recommend staying inside the terminal and alway remain with a crowd of people.  If you judge situations well and how to avoid unwanted attention I don't think it will be a problem for you, but if you are on the bit naive side or you have habit of attracting unwanted attention then I wouldn't recommend you travel alone.

  2. You could probably do it. However, my fiance is 21 and everytime she leaves her night class, she calls me while walking to her car just in case something happens, she is not allowed to pump gas at night, and she may not go to coed parties without me. It is not a matter of trust. We both trust one another. These are safety steps that we take to significantly reduce the chance of something happening. Traveling alone on public transportation is not the safest decision.

I hope this helped. Good luck with your decision.

  3. A 20 year old is an adult and should be able to look after herself!  I went away to college at 18 and had to travel home to see my family and I was perfectly safe.

  4. I've been travelling across many provinces on the bus alone since I was 18. I've never had a problem. Though there are things to keep yourself protected.

I always call someone to check in at each stop when I get off the bus. I make sure I can carry all my own luggage. I make sure I can protect my belongs when I sleep. I say hello to the driver getting on and off the bus. Another tip that I stumbled on by accident was, read a book that makes YOU seem a little crazy and it often keeps other people from wanting to sit with you. I discovered this reading a book about Jack the Ripper. Also, try chatting with a few people, you stick out more and people will remember you.

Now the last point could go up and down. It COULD make you stick out if there actually is a predator around around, OR it could keep you safe as its easier to target the person no one knows is there rather than the center of attention.

Most people on the bus are normal people getting from A to B. Rarely will you find a problem if you travel on the bus often. Buses are not big targets for attack and rather crowded for most predators.

Personally if I were to do this I'd take the train as its easier to move around, you can have a hot meal and the washroom is nicer.

    Good Luck.

NOTE: I have to tell you, you are more at risk in a crowd. Statistically and psychologically, FEW to no people will help you if you are in need in a crowd.

  5. yes. i would think so...just look after yourself

  6. As safe as it would be for her to drive across country by herself. Stay with the bus crowd at stops, don't wander off and pay attention to your surroundings

  7. I'd say yes, but it totally depends on the girl.  Is she responsible??

  8. Be smart, know your surroundings, and stay in groups and in the open.  Keep a cell phone fully charged, travel with as few items with possible, and HAVE FUN

  9. I believe not...Very scary..Ive rode the bus from Kirkland WA(USA) to Seattle WA(USA) a thirty minute ride...My friend that was with me got stabbed by someone sitting while we were getting off the bus..so crowded..and she almost died from the wound in her appendix...the stab was deep...and penetrated deep enough that if she hadnt gotton to hospital she would ve died... :((

  10. Young lady today it isn't safe no what age you are. If your family and yourself feel  it would be unsafe then go with your instincts. If i were to let my daughter ride a long or short distance, like your talking about on a bus i would make sure that at least the driver would see to it that you are escorted from one place to the other, and that he made sure each driver done the same until I met with whomever I was going to meet. By the way's my daughter is in her 30's and has 3 boy's, and was trained in the Army. Nothing can ever be to safe for our loved ones , and there are a lot of strange people out there today!!! Be safe and have a good time no matter how you go. May the Lord surround you with his angels and protect you.

  11. yes...tips are to find a travel friend right away and stick with them....also when getting off at stops, dont wander off...many bus stations r in poor areas and not safe.....dollar for dollar id fly...

  12. It ain't safe for a girl to ride her greyhound anywhere these days...

  13. I'd do it

  14. Well you're 20, carry mace in you pocket.

  15. Is it safe to walk out your front door? Is there any "SAFE" anything out there in the world? Any time that you travel any where ...... there is always a certain risk involved. But traveling on a greyhound bus with alot of other people, at least assures you  of a direct route that you won't get lost, won't be traveling by yourself, won't fall asleep at the wheel, won't break down in your car, won't get raped or mugged, (on the bus) So YES I would say that would be one of the safest trips that you  could make. Just have whomever you are visiting pick you up on time.

  16. I think it depends on the girl.  If she's mature, then it probably won't be a problem.

  17. Indeed, just look after yourself!

  18. There is no guarantee of safety anywhere!  I would probably do it though.

  19. Let the ticket agents and driver know you are traveling alone and might need assistance. Stay on the bus as much as possible; move in crowds.

  20. I wouldn't do it

  21. That's funny.  I don't feel safe in Georgia---got mugged there once.   Won't go back there on Greyhound, Amtrak, in a car or in a plane.

  22. Depends on the girl.  Some 20-year-old girls I have met shouldn't even be going to the grocery store on their own.   But yes, there is nothing inherently unsafe about greyhound, so if her parents generally let her go places on her own then it should be fine.

  23. Yes, just stay by the driver and stay alert and look mean.

  24. if u have no other option than yea..i recommend u wouldnt go alone but if u do make sure u carry pepper spray or somesort of tool for self defence.....just in case

  25. I'm 46 and I wouldn't feel safe on a Greyhound going from Cleveland Ohio to Akron Ohio.

  26. depends on the girl tho at 20 am not sure girl is the correct term............. woman?

  27. depends on your maturity level.  Does "Mommy" allow you to go on the bus in town?   Again, if you ask the company they will say "Yes".

  28. probably, but carry mace just in case

  29. yes, i've seen younger
