Is it safe for a 20 yr old female to travel alone?

So I am born and raised in NYC and have never been outside of the US. I really would like to travel all over the world. Not just touristy places like paris but like india and south africa. Is it safe? Should I wait?

Go for it. If you have the opportunity. Just make sure you do alot of very specific research about the places that you want to go, keep up with current events and be willing to be flexible. If you are smart about it you can go anywhere. Education is the key.

Anyone travelling alone is at a higher risk. Try to find a travelling buddy, or stick with a tour group. 3rd world places can be dangerous to anyone, and travelling alone labels you as a target, no matter s*x or age.
