She's an experienced traveler; maybe I just worry too much about kidnapping and bad things?

  1. HAVEN'T YOU SEEN SCARY MOVIES????  DON'T GO!!!

  2. These 3 countries would generally be safer than places like London or Paris. Just take the normal precautions you would normally take at home, be knowledgeable about and respectful of local customs (especially about the dress code) and you will be fine. I think Lonely Planet has a guide for solo female travelers, but I don't think it would be necessary in those cases.

  3. I have lived in and traveled in all three places. China and S. Korea you should be fine. Just dont' do anything foolish with an American soldier in S. Korea (and I MARRIED one...I KNOW what is often on their minds....they are often young and lonely). China was wonderful. Try to learn a few phrases in Chinese though because often even cab drivers do not speak English.

Now do not be paranoid about India. Yes, they will often stare at blonde women...and beggars do reach out and touch you. You can wear decent shorts and tshirts though many women prefer to wear local clothes which are pretty and cheap. You will DIE in jeans. In any country you should be respectful of locals. Do not make fun of accents, food, or culture. In the evening you will run into mosquitoes so go prepared. Some people take malaria meds and some do not. I lived there 5 years and never got malaria. BUT do be careful with stray dogs, cats, monkeys and bats....all can carry rabies. If you get a scratch, not just a bite, you should get DR to look at it. Stick with tourist spots but be catious of taxis. Take ones from hotels....they often register with hotel....or the ones sponsored by airports. DO NOT ride in private cars that say they are cheaper than taxis. Relax and have fun AFTER careful planning.

  4. India, I don't really know, but South Korea and Shanghai are fine.  I have been to both as a solo female traveller.  I didn't run around to bars at night or anything.

  5. You definitly will not have trouble in South Korea or Shanghei. However, women whose bodies are not fully covered attract a lot of sexual harrasment in India. I don't think you have to worry about being kidnapped in India though if your traveling with another person. Remember to never carry a lot of money on you and if you do keep it well hidden under your clothes.

  6. I don't see why not. Provided you plan well ahead, and keep strictly to the tourist routes. Make your research online about the places you wish to visit, book for everything in advance, and search for reviews on the place you plan to stay. Also would be a good idea to get travel insurance in case something unexpected happens.

  7. Always a good idea to travel with other women just make Certain that she's not a serial killer.

  8. I would just stay in the tourist zones.  I wouldnt travel outside without somebody (i mean protection).  S Korea you should be fine.  Shanghai you sould be okay as well (again assuming you stay in tourist zones).

I have a huge issue with india.  I would suggest you getting protection, its not that expensive.  I dont want to scare you, but its reality.  If you plan to leave tourist places, You should get protection in all but SK.  No way in h**l you walk around india without protection.  China and SK you should be fine.  But I would still get protection, you are clearly worried and its not that expensive to get protection.  But india, not a shot in h**l.  Get protection unless you are only going to tourist sites.  Have lots of people around.

    My opinion
