  1. Now that is good question. I've often wondered about that my self as I talked with or seen women traveling alone in Vietnam.

Vietnam is in general a very safe country but it only takes one bad personal incident to wreck all that.

I'm a guy and I have never really been in a situation involving Vietnamese that worried me. Though there are some of the foreign backpackers who have made me uncomfortable at times.

Overall your safety depends a lot on how aware you are of your surroundings and how you handle your self in general. Also, as mentioned being careful not to flash money , jewelry, watches, or other valuables around.

I think if I hadn't had any security training or hadn't had any first hand experience in this area. I might look at some of the training classes offered by many of the police departments.

  2. that's a no brainer , stay home !!!!!

  3. absolutly, i see young girls traveling all over viet nam by themselves .. never heard of a problem..

  4. it is OK, but be carefully. Do not show your wallet with bunch of cash when you purchase something. If you ride taxi, watch out. Those cab drivers cheat on passengers by using meter with no inspection. You are end up paying more.

    Have a good time.

  5. Hi, it's me again. Had also answered your question on Cambodia. Safe to travel?? Much safer than in Cambodia but again, do take precautions. Here, taxi are abundant but do take note of some taxi company where the driver are not professional ie overcharge and take you riding around before reaching your destination. Good taxi are Mai Linh, Vinasun, Vinataxi ( can forget about the rest ). Do becareful with your handbag and handphone cause there are still many cases of thief snatching your things while riding bikes. Walking along the roads are safe ( but not too late into the morning ). Food stalls along the road are generally ok to eat, but since your first time there, suggest not to cause your stomach is not immune to the gems yet..Whenever strangrs ask you whether you are tourist, say no-otherwise they will keep pestering you. Best learn some basic vietnamese words to look like you been staying in vietnam for quite some time..Enjoy yourself then...

  6. From my time here as an Tour Agent and living here before i havent heard of any outstanding problems.  Yes you may be hassled more by the men and definately targeted more by scam artists, but physical safety yes.

Overall i would feel a lot safer having my little sister live here than in the little city i am from in Michigan. Though it may look chaotic and no rules but there is a system and if you are to stay long enough you will notice and maybe perhaps actually come to appreciate it and wonder why people think you are safer in America.

Sorry my friends say that i am a Pro Commi :P

  7. When I went to Vietnam I met lots of females travelling on their own. You will meet lots of other people (male and female). Your best bet is to see if they want to travel together.

Just be safe and use your common sense (as you would in any any country/city)

  8. ofcourse, but you're worrying, you can go by taxi. When buying souvenir or everything, you have to bargain.Plz email me when you're going to visit Vietnam
