Okay, I'm a young Vietnamese female who's never been to Vietnam before, but I might get a chance to go with some relatives this summer. Also, not to brag but to inform to get a good answer, my family is more on the wealthy side (NOT TOTALLY RICH, just on the wealthy side) and might be known of in Vietnam, and I don't know if that makes me more likely to be a target for anyone. I'd really appreciate it if you could tell me how safe it is to travel around any part of Vietnam. To all of the creeps out there, don't even think about trying to find me for any flipping reason because FYI, I know martial arts (ha, BLACK BELT), and I can totally kick your ***!! I know because I've sparred people two times as big as me, and I kicked their ***es! Thanks to anyone who helps. By the way, sorry about the foul language to anyone who read this who ISN'T a flipping creep.

  1. I believe you gave too much information about yourself that was unnecessary to state your question. Since you felt it necessary to do so in order to get a real good answer, I will oblige you with such as answer.

Vietnam is one of the safest and cheapest places for Americans to travel at this time. I've been there a few times recently and my wife currently lives in Ho Chi Minh City. Many who regularly answer questions in this category often travel Vietnam too. You having roots in Vietnam will especially enjoy the experience with relative safety so long as you don’t do something stupid that would get you into trouble.

I’m going to bluntly tell you a few things in hopes that you will take my advice to make your trip more pleasant. You need to check your attitude concerning your family’s wealth and your martial arts skills.

Vietnamese culture will be much different from what you are accustomed to. The native Vietnamese are more family oriented than money oriented, which means they appreciate your respect for family and elders more than the wealth that your family has acquired. If you don’t demonstrate your respect while there, even your own relatives will treat you as nothing more than a walking moneybag.

Your family will be well known in Vietnam, but not for what you think. You are Viet Kieu (foreign living Vietnamese), and the native Vietnamese will automatically treat you different. Many  will think that you owe them something because you had an easy life in America and they endured hardship under communism. They will expect you to help them, and they will take every advantage they have to get into your pockets. It’s going to be up to you whether being Viet Kieu is going to be a benefit or a curse on you while there.

You should keep your martial arts skills to yourself while traveling through Vietnam. Martial arts are like little league to the Vietnamese, and everyone there knows something. You may find a six-year-old kid that will knock you on your butt if you flaunt what you think you know about martial arts while there.

You will enjoy your trip much more if you go there with a more open mind and less of an attitude.

  2. You don't need to worry any thing when traveling to Vietnam. As Vietnam is the safetest country in the world now. Nowaday, vietnamese people are very friendly and we don't care you're rich or poor

  3. well, actually, there's no case of kidnapping or anything,

    rich wont do anything,

but if u're pretty and wear s**y clothes, then...it's kind of a problem

but hold on, r u a girl or a boi?

if u're a boi, theres nothing to worry about

if u're a girl, and kind of pretty or s**y, then people might be whistling and flirting, following, its not a big problem

    ^_^

especially u got black belt so...

but dun be too mean ^^, u'll get jump by some freaks or they curse, oh, yeah, they curse alot ^^

try to get used to it

and do go anywhere where its too dark and nobody present ^^

just be careful, go w/ some friends, or a vietnamese relative

    what part of vietnam though?

if its saigon, and u have never been in saigon be4 then gotta be careful of the guys, go w/ a vietnamese relative, ^_^ they'll guide u

well, but go alone is kind of fun too, i'll do it if i was u, just dun listen, trust or follow anybody ^^

  4. well it is still fine if u go alone but just for saftey, bring a cell phone in case or something like that.
