  1. i started when i was 15. it is amazing. the classes are very safe.

  2. of course it is! provided that he or she has had proper training and certification.  Diving schools usually offer classes for kids from age 10 and up.  Safety is the key.  as long as they know what they are doing, it's a great sport.

  3. Starting while you are young is the best way to learn how to dive. Through PADI you can get your Junior Open Water Certification begining at age 10 which means you MUST dive with a OW Certified adult minimum. At age 15 the Junior OW Cert can be changed to a regular OW Certification. You can also do begin Advanced OW Classes at age 12 and I believe even Rescue Diver training. I know a kid (17yrs old now) who got his Master Scuba Diver rating at age 13 (he's the son of my instructor). So go ahead and get your certification. Study hard and keep at it, and enjoy every minuite of diving that you can get.

  4. It is definately safe, but make sure you get certified first.

  5. It is defiantly safe. I started taking classes when I was 11, and on the weekend of my 12 birthday I did my first certification dive. You do need to be comfortable enough to take your mask and clear it underwater; also you need to be a good swimmer. If you are a good swimmer you should go for it. Diving is one of the most peaceful beautiful things I have ever experienced in my life. If you are going to get certified DON'T take a two day pool class and expect to be a good diver. I took a month of studying and classes. Two pool dives, and about 4 certification quarry dives. You will have to take about a 150 question test too.

  6. Yes as long as they dont go past 70 feet because the effects on bone marrow are unknown. Personally I dived when I was 12 and went to 80 feet by accident and I'm fine.

  7. Nothing you do is ever "perfectly" safe. Just as there are potential dangers in driving a car, there are potential dangers in scuba diving. However, as far as being old enough and can their body handle it, yes. PADI has a Junior Open Water certification for younger divers. My daughter was certified at age 10 and absolutely loves it.

So as long as your teen does all the bookwork and gets properly certified so that they fully understand scuba and how to avoid the dangers associated with it, yes, it's safe and I'm sure your teen would love it.

  8. As long as the teen is mature, then it's no different than adult scuba diving. The only difference in  the age, is that the station tubes (tubes connected to your ears that help you equalize the pressure underwater (like if you swallow on a plane), are slightly smaller); which basically means that it just takes longer for the younger diver to equalize to the pressure, which means they have to take longer to get to the bottom.

I got ncertified when I was 12. No problems.

  9. Why would it be. I am 32 but was certified as a P.A.D.I juniour open water diver when I was 15
