Is it safe for boys under the age of 10 to play football?

I have heard that it's bad for growing boys physically to play football. Yet, I know lots of kids who play. Are there any studies to show it's safe or otherwise?

  1. It's safe, but like all sports at any age, there's always a risk.  Both my brothers started playing at age 6 and neither one had any injuries.

  2. then get a pyshical for him, my best guy friends all play football, we r in 6th grade goin into 7th

  3. yeah because my brother and hes friends are 9,9,9,and7 and they play football with me a 15 year old and with some kids who are 18,16 and other 15 year olds i just advice you becareful and dont play to roughly and you should be safe

  4. i think it should be safe, if he is playing with people his age!

  5. Well, they'll generally be more fragile.

If they're playing among themselves it shouldn't be terrible, but you should be careful they don't get hurt.

It's not entirely safe, of course, but neither is professional football. If you're careful, there should be no problem.

  6. My sons have played football from 7 on (one is 11yo and the other is 8yo) without a problem.  I believe it's safe as long as they are playing with kids their age, all the proper equipment and with coaches that know what they are doing.

My boys are physically fine, without one injury (besides a bruise here and there) from playing.

  7. Only if there are hot cheerleaders in the stands to cheer them on.

I've played football with guys at that age.

  8. YES, LET HIM PLAY IF HE WANTS TO

  9. I think it's safe if a boy plays with other boys his size and age. I can't see why it would be bad for them unless they're getting hurt.
