Question:

Is it safe for me to delete this back-up folder?

I have a back-up folder on my external hard drive of my iTunes folder. For some reason it's almost twice the size of the original, so may have duplicated some files when I backed it up again after the first one. So I now want to delete it and make a fresh back-up. When I right-click on the folder on my external hard drive to delete it will it only delete that one? It won't delete the original on my main hard drive will it?

  1. No, it won't delete the one on your main hard drive. The hard drive and the external hard drive are two different spots. It's not like both share the same folder.

Your original files on the main hard drive will remain right at their place even if you delete the ones from the external hard drive. Try doing it, no harm will befall your original files.

    Hope this helps.

  2. save it to disc --

    for safety and personal sanity.

back it up to disc unless you have all the music somewhere else

My friend uses a large external usb hard drive

Edit -- not reading the question proper

Yes i agree  with your other answer --- remove your external hard drive before you do anything drastic

  3. It wont delete the original but if anything goes wrong and you come and kick my bu**, I suggest putting the external HDD on another computer and then deleting it.  And I meant using the basic Windows Explorer Interface.

And my answer is based on your question if its like:

    1) I have a song in my Primary HDD

    2) I have two copies of that song on my External HDD

    3) I want to delete those 2 copies of songs

(Just delete the folder using windows explorer interface)

  4. Can't u make a backup on ur desktop first, then remove from external?

Best way to make sure i think
