Is it safe for my 2 year old to ride rear facing? See more below...

We have to go on a 10 hour car ride to visit family. We're thinking about going at night time... so I thought it would be a better "sleeping" position for my 2 year old son if I turned the car seat back around. That way we could recline the seat more and avoid the horrible looking neck bob that happens when he sleeps in his seat facing forward.

He is 28 lbs and our carseat limit is 35 lbs for rear facing... so he still fits the size limit. He always sits "indian style" in his carseat anyways, so he wouldn't mind the smaller amount of leg room.

Everything I read says this is still safe... anyone have any personal experience or thoughts?

Thanks!

  1. I wouldn't worry about his legs. Any accident violent enough to throw his carseat backward into the seat of the car and break his legs would be much worse for his neck were he facing forward.

  2. My only worry would be his legs...in an accident if he has his legs out, he could be hurt.
