Is it safe for three and four year old children to wear deodorant?

I have two nieces who play extremely hard and at the end of the day they are unusually musty. They take baths on a daily basis so is there anything else that I can do to prevent their underarm odor?

  1. Kids shouldn't wear adult deodorant. Their skin is not resilient enough.

The baby powder idea is good. If they are super stinky, though, I'd go with an aluminum free, very low chemical deodorant, like Tom's of Maine.

  2. no i don't think so. stick to powder till the kid is about 9 then move to deodorant.

  3. deodorant can clog there newly forming pores i would sponge bathe them throughout the day with a wash cloth, and apply some baby powder.

  4. it's not safe b/c some have harsh chemicals

try washing with soap and water (not harsh soap)

    and try natural sprays

  5. Try using a lime. Seriously it works great for little people.  or try using the non scent deodorant.  Or maybe her doctor can prescribe something a little less harsh. I hope this can help!!!!  Good Luck!!

  6. It ain't safe because they're skin ain't so rough to handle it.

  7. deodorants (especially ones with antiperspirant) are designed for pre to post pubescent people. Your stinkiness comes with hormones so they probably wouldn't be effective on kids that young. Also, you might give them a complex. After they have a big afternoon play, have them change their shirts for dinner. The smell is more likely to be in their clothes.

  8. I would avoid deodorant with children that young. Most kids have a musty "outdoors" smell after playing hard in the summer. So long as they are bathing regularly, they are OK.

However, if you are adamant about deodorant, then I would suggest something organic. It's going to be chemical free, and therefore LESS irritating.  You can even get them with a mild, natural scent like lavender.  You can find some organic deodorants on www.tropicaltraditions.com

  9. After their baths do you dry them thoroughly? Especially under the arms...this is what causes the stench along with sweat.

Dry them off and apply baby powder. I dont think deodorant will hurt them...But I just dont think they should wear it at the age.

But Johnson & Johnson cream/lotion all over them after there bath-then apply baby powder under there arms, back of knees elbow creases under the neck..so they will stay dry.
