Is it safe (from hurricane) to travel to Punta Cana in mid-August?

thats smack in the middle of hurricane season and they get hit with a few each year.  when i go its in nov/dec.. besides its nice to go somewhere exotic when its cold up in ny.

Generally in august there are no problems!!!! But if you wanna play safe, why don't you go to Puerto Plata, much better and no risk of hurricane.

Yes it is!  I was in Punta Cana in Sept of 2007 and nothing happened to us.

They have such great technology in the ocean that they will know days in advance of a hurricane coming.  That would give you plenty of time to get out.

No hurricane season is June to November

That's hurricane season.  If you book flights or resorts, I'd recommend buying trip insurance that covers having to cancel due to a hurricane.
