  1. Totally 100% safe! That area is very upscale and nice...shouldn't have any problems what so ever. (not trying to jinx you) lol. You should be fine using dollars as well, although it wouldn't hurt to exchange a bit at the airport too. Oh...just don't carry $100 or $50... that's a hassle most places...stick to smaller bills. You will love Guana... enjoy your trip! Pura Vida!

  2. i've actually just come back from that hotel! it's amazing you'll love it and it looks exactly like it does in the pictures. Try the cocktail pura vida. It' s very safe and the people are all really friendly. You can use dollars everywhere. If you want to do some tours check out vargas tours, we went on 6 trips with them and they were all perfect. i recommend the canopy tour and the cloud forest in monteverde. Make sure you take some serious mosquito spray and don't think you're safe from them in your room!

  3. that part of the country is really safe. mugging are close to san jose area. just relax and enjoy the ride. you can pay in us $ but most of the stores don't accept $50 or $100 bills. i recommend to get some colones and use them once a while cuz it would be difficult for the change cuz they don't give you u.s. currency back

  4. The truth is it is pretty safe... But, you still shouldn´t trust everybody...About dollars, it would be better if you got some colones (Costa Rican currency)...
