Is it safe to buy a phone off ebay?

I want a new blackberry from at&t, but i dont want to get dragged into another contract. Also on Ebay most of the phones are unlocked. Does that mean that had to open up the box and unlock them? And when they say their new, are they really new?

Ebay isn't selling you the phone...a individual seller is.  Check out his feedback and rating before buying and direct all questions to him

It depend on what the sellers feedback is.Check the feed back and if it is over 100 with 100% positive feedback then I would trust them but if it isn't that good I think I would look for a different one from a better seller. Good Luck!
