i want to combine two speaker selectors so that the amp goes into A and A goes into B with speakers attached on both A and B. Is this safe for the equipment? Will it work at all? Both selectors have a safety toggle

  1. How many speakers in total do you want to connect.? It is recommended, you NOT use the 'B' in addition to the 'A' when using a multi speaker switch. The best solution is to use one IMPEDANCE matching selector connected to only your 'A' output. Make sure the selector has enough positions for all the speakers you want to run. There are many speaker selectors which can handle op to 8 pair of speakers. If you really need to use more than one speaker switch and use both A and B then you absolutely must use impedance matching selectors.

Read the back of the receiver, it might say something like 'A' 4-16ohm, 'B' 8ohm minimum. You do not want to exceed the limits of your amplifier. Some amps will run your AB selection in parallel and some will run it in series. Is is very important you set your selectors' impedance's properly to prevent failure of your amp. Read the instruction manual for your receiver to verify the maximum and minimum impedance loads allowed and also read the instructions for the speaker switches carefully to ensure they are set properly.
