Absolutely.  Well anytime you download anything you should always do a scan -- irrespective of mp3, movies, or software ...

If you dont' already have avg I recommend you should get it immediately!

I usually download mine from www.ringaholic.com they are pretty safe

I don't know about viruses, but ringtones on line are never free. The first one might be, but you REALLY need to read the fine print. They usually add you to some auto-update list and charge you ten bucks a month or more (they bill it right to your phone), for the "privilege" of getting more of their stupid ringtones for free. Trying to cancel is like pulling teeth.

The only free ones I would download would be from my service provider, thought they're never free.

I make my own, anyway.

if you want it safe then search for those legit place that support your carrier it is the legal way to put ringtones on your phone but it's safe from scam and viruses.

If ringtones tell you they are free then you can be sure there are embedded viruses in the download file.  If possible you should always download every file to save instead of run.  Then say the file is saved in your documents, open and run both your antivirus and antispyware before you proceed to install.  This is the safe way.  There are actually free products that are safe but you should never take the chance.
