I'll be travelling from DC to Quebec City in January. Are there likely to be road closures due to the weather? Is it safe to drive a regular car or should I hire a 4x4?

  1. A native Detroiter ,where a heavy snowfall is 12 - 16" and it takes them days to get the roads clean, transplanted to Eastern Ontario.  I have to say "Canadians sure know how to keep their roads clean. I have made the trip to Quebec City and can honestly tell you the hardest part of the trip will be from DC to the border.   This past feb and march we had snowfalls of 30 to 50cm approx 18 to 40 inches and the roads were cleaned within hours.  A regular car will do just well.

While in Quebec City take time to visit the walled city.  And if your into crepes check out the Coin du Breton.

  2. Yes, it's safe, and no, you won't need a 4x4. What you definitely *WILL* need, if you're going to Québec in January, is some warm clothing. Dress in layers. Have a great trip!

  3. Depends There Might Be A Blizzard There Might Not

  4. Just as safe as anyplace. Any relieable car will make the trip just fine.
