  1. if there is no male then its not fertilized and ok although it may not be as safe as eggs you buy in stores which go through inspection and testing

  2. Absolutely yes.  Your chicken's egg should be SAFE.  I've had non-fertile eggs go through a week on the incubator at 100 degrees and still cook out safe...  Do a float test... in water, does it come to the top?  No?  Good to eat.

Just cook them to the required 160 degrees and you are good to go...

FYI:  Store bought eggs do NOT always go through testing!  The testing is voluntary and usually only because their has been trouble with some of them.  Usually NPIP flocks are tested completely and handled in a safe way.  Egg companies don't test that heavily!

  3. yeah go for it, if it laid and egg its probavly concetrated on keeping it warm under it body

  4. Yes, eating an egg that's been brooded for just a day -- or even a couple of days, is no problem.  They haven't developed enough for anything noticeable to have occurred.

  5. Yes it is safe.

A hen will generally lay all she is going to lay BEFORE turning up or adjusting her body temperature for the incubation period.  This is why though a hen lays new eggs on different days that most all of them will hatch the same day.

I have 1 Rooster and 10 hens so I am sure that most all of the eggs I gather are probably fertile but I do gather my eggs twice a day to prevent getting an egg with a developing embryo.

Gathering eggs twice a day and getting them into the refrigerator as soon as I gather them stops any embryo growth that might be there to start under the right conditions.

The eggs you buy in the stores are generally eggs that are gathered from hens that aren't allowed near a rooster.  Egg farms are in the business of selling eggs and can't risk a fertile egg to slip through so don't worry about getting store fertilized eggs.

    Good Luck and Good Eating
