Is it safe to email your personal info over the internet?

we're moving to a different state in a couple days, and i want to give my old friends my new address by email. is it safe to email just my new address and phone number over the internet or should i just call them and tell them? thanks

It is not secure. This is because e-mail text travels over internet as a plain text. If you want to add a little security on your mail, you might use a doc file with a password or maybe a zip file with a password.
