Is it safe to fly in to Cancun on the afternoon of Fri, Aug. 29th and leave on the morning Mon, Sept. 1st?

It's safe, it will be crowded. It also doesn't leave much time to do anything.

Honestly....Don't waste your time or money. Gustav will be present and it's going to be rainy and not very nice at all. That is too short of a trip to Cancún. It would be a waste of money. With Gustav being close it's going to make Cancún rainy and you won't have a good time. Save the money and go a different time. I spend a lot of time in Cancún and I'm flying back to the States just for that reason. It's going to be rainy and miserable. Good luck on what you decide to do.

That depends on how much you want to do.  If you want to just relax on the beach, then you will be fine.  But if you want to do some sightseeing there wont be much time.  You also have to take into account that it will take time to go from the airport and check in the hotel.
