  1. if you have a male betta, DON"T get another male betta - they will fight to the death. you can add a female betta, or a small community fish like a platy or a danio

  2. Yes, they will fight and probably kill each other. Don't get your beta fish a "friend".

  3. if your betta fish is a female its fine but if its a male you might not want to put certain fish in with it but some fish are acceptable

    [[save the bettafish at wal-mart]]

  4. Fish don't get lonely.  Trying to put human emotions on them is pointless. You cannot put a male betta with another betta of any s*x.  They will fight, often to the death.  You can add a smaller peaceful fish with a betta if you have suitable housing.

Your betta should be in at least a 5 gallon heated filtered tank.  You really need 10 gallons to be able to add more fish.  Betta's can sometimes be community fish but some are very territorial and will kill any other fish.

  5. yes i heard neons and danios are fine with them

also bettas prefer to be alone but its fine to add other fish

  6. betas can be put in with almost any other kind of aquarium fish except other male betas.

i have mine in with guppies, silver dollar fish, danios, mollies and catfish

  7. It depends on what fish you are thinking about putting in with your Betta and if yours is male or female.

There are also tests to see how (if he or she) aggressive your fish is.

You can find some good info about it on wikipedia.org

  8. Yes, you can get him a friend! Every time I read a question about betta compatibility I read people who have obviously never tryed to keep a betta with anything say they will kill everything. NOT TRUE! Betta's are beautifull fish great for community aquariums! They will kill another MALE betta and should only be with other female Betta'sfor spawning, never as a permanent tank mate They go great with smiler sized short finned fish. Like some tetras, african dwarf frogs, snails, and a lot more. Don't listen to ppl saying they are killers. And no, they are not called a japanese fighting fish. Its siamese fighting fish! My bBetta'sare with snails ans once I get my 29 gallon tank up and running i am gonna add 5 female Betta's together. Yes you can get your betta a friend. As long as it is not longfinned or colorful they will mix fine!

  9. yes they will beta fish are fighting fish it doesn't need a friend trust me on that.

  10. If your tank is large enough, you could keep a male betta with any other similar-sized, peaceful tropical fish without long flowing fins.  Some possiblities are:

    mollies

    platies

    swordtails

3 cories (they are social and should be kept in 3s or more)

6 neon tetras (they will nip fins if not kept in schools of 6 or more)

    endlers

wild type or short-finned guppies (not fancy male guppies as their long fins may confuse the betta and make him attack them)

Much of putting another fish with your betta depends on the personality of the individual betta.  Bettas are intelligent fish with unique personalities.  Much of the joy of owning a betta is getting to know the quirks and oddities of your particular fish.  Some are fierce hunters who don't want to share their space and will attack any fish that comes near.  Others are very calm and peaceful and will enjoy having another fish around to watch and play with.  Make sure you introduce any fish to your betta's tank or vice versa very carefully and never take his (or her) behavior for granted.

  11. If your Beta is a Male, it's only safe to get another Beta if it's female. Two Beta males in the same bowl will fight until one is dead. It is possible to add another type of fish, but not necessary. Fish don't have "friends".

  12. yes but only a male and female but their is a certain kind of female/male that can go with your fish if you have a male their is a certain kind of female that can go with the male.and if you have female their is a certain kind of male that can go with the female but don't put two of the same gender together or they will fight.

  13. i saw some thing about betta friends unfortunately they refer to females not males so if you have a female you can have a friend but if its a male don't do it this happened to me i got my male betta a compatible friend but it killed it and when I went back to see what went wrong it said the commpatibility is based on female bettas

  14. Yes you can. As long as the fish you put in isn't another male betta. Betta's are a community fish. They don't fight with other fish..so NO they won't kill them. I keep a betta in my 55 gall. community tank. I have had no problems in the past or with the one that currently inhabits the tank. People who say the fish can't be put with other fish have probably never kept one in a community tank. I would suggest not putting in any high - strung fish in with him such as guppies due to the fact that Betta's are more of a slow moving fish and guppies are high energy and fin nippers. I keep with mine plecos an algae eater, tetras, a female betta, gouramis, a red tailed shark, and angelfish.

    Good Luck :]
