Is it safe to give out your vehicles VIN number when you're about to sell your car?

A potential buyer is asking, over e-mail, if I am willing to provide him with my vehicles VIN number. He obvisouly wants to check its history but is it safe for me to give him that?

  1. Yes, it's safe. He is apparently wanting to do a Carfax or similar check.

    Any vehicle record online won't contain private info that you need to worry over.


  2. It's save to give out the vin# If you don't then you might miss out on a sale . You sure don't want that to happen.

  3. yes its safe people do it all the time if you look on Ebay for example most cars are listed with vin# and if they want to do a carfax they need the vin#.

  4. If he knows how to rad them then he does not need whole vin.  Give only numbers he needs.  look up online which ones give what info and then you can tell him.
