Is it safe to go fishing in Punta CANA?

I will be staying at a resort & i've never been before. i'm scared bcuz people say not to go off of the resort. Is it safe to go with someone working at the resort?...or by myself ( with my friend)

Never go outside an resort alone, especially in a foreign country. I think you should ask your resort if they have any fishing excursions, (which they should have) where you can fish along with other people from your resort.

Pinguino is right, the other dude has no clue.  People who say not to leave the resort are inexperienced scardie cat morons.  The country is beatiful and the people very nice.  I go there several times a year and would never ever stay in one of those golden jails where thay make you wear a hospital bracelet.  There are so many nicer places in the DR than those silly resorts.

Go deep sea fishing, I caught a Marlin last year off Puerto Plata - its pretty wild.

You can go outside the resorts whiteout any problem. People telling it is dangerous are or stupid (ignorant) or jealous ! I live for more than 15 years over here and never had problems and I'm not living i a "tourist area" ! Now to answer your question: To go fishing you have two possibilities or from the side or go "deep sea fishing" with a organized tour operator. You need to go outside the resort to discover this beautiful country, even if Punta Cana is not the best fr visiting because this is more a "Golden Jail Hotel Area" with not much to do or to see outside, the Americans love it, but if you are a real traveler you must go to Puerto Plata 10x better! Anyway enjoy it and if you go fishing catch a big ne!
