Question:

Is it safe to go out at night?

I live in a relatively safe, semi-rural area, and a grocery store is just down the road. I like to go down there when I have cravings after mid-night. My parents would have me believe that it's dangerous to do so and I shouldn't. But I've just reached adult age and I'm realising that maybe that isn't right. Is going out late at night a dangerous thing that nobody should really be doing, like speeding, or is it reasonably safe and my parents are just parents?

  1. It depends very much where you are. In some parts of Britain, you're probably not very safe going out in daylight. In others, the chances of something happening are probably pretty minute.

Of course, it's never completely safe, but if you're an adult then I don't see why a quick drive to the grocer's should be seen as so perilous, especially if your area is as you describe it. Take the proper precautions: tell people where you're going etc. but there's no need to live your life in fear.

In some areas of the world your parents may have a point, but I suspect they're just being parents and caring about you a tiny bit too much.

    Edit: What Grenmatta said.

  2. it is not safe on your own but if you are with a group then yes it is :)

    hope i helped :)

  3. if you are in britain.answer is NO.

  4. It is perfectly safe where i live........the only things i fear are the dark corners where i can tripand fall...............most drivers i assume are also night blind very often so it is wiser to stay home

  5. s

  6. A safe bet would be to invest in a tazer, pistol, or how about a dog, preferably a large dog, that can eat people.

  7. Personally, I wouldn't go out at that time of night - you could get your munchies in before 8pm. You just need to plan ahead.

Girls out alone late at night are at risk of being attacked wherever they live in the UK. It's not really worth taking the risk as far as I'm concerned.

  8. only if you are wearing body armour.good luck

  9. Firstly parents will always be parents, that's their job, so if they worry it is because they love you.

As for being safe, well, that depends just where you live, how well lit it is, just how quiet it is and so on.

Still, single girl walking round after midnight in semi rural area? Would you like the idea of someone you know and love walking round at that time of night.

  10. Parents will always be parents, even when YOU are a granny, listen to what they say. After all they are only thinking of your safety

  11. I understand you wanting to walk to get food in the middle of the night, because I do too sometimes, but I wouldn't.  Rapists love to take advantage of girls who are alone, drunk, etc.

  12. Take reasonable precautions, keep your eyes open and stop worrying, you only get one life - why shorten it with un-necessary stress.

  13. True. 99.9 per cent of the time you won't get raped or stabbed by walking to the shop at night. Then again it does happen all too much. I know quite a few people who have been attacked at night and I would say that it is far from what I would class as safe. Do as you wish but remember that there is always a chance of something bad happening and why take the risk for a chocolate craving?

  14. what state are you in?

  15. I think you're all being ridiculous. I am a night owl and go out whenever I choose. Bring a cell phone and be watchful; you'll be fine.

  16. No, because it only takes less than 30 seconds to be abducted and become a statistic, people (criminals) are on the look out each and everyday for this same routine, I would go with a friend if you really have to, be careful.

  17. It isn't safe to go out at night. Please remember that.

  18. If it's a safe neighborhood it's not likely that you'll get attacked but you might not want to do it to be on the safe side. It's just as safe as going durring the day alone. It's all a matter of how safe you want to be. Is it safe to jump out of a plane? No. Have I done it, yes. Why cuz I too enough precautions to allay my fears

  19. Not with New Labour in charge it isn't.

  20. Yes it is safe to go out. But take care.Complain to the local magistrate about the speeding vehicles.Your parents r right (Think over it)

  21. It is NOT safe at all to go out at night or even when it gets dark.  At ALL times speeding and dangerous driving goes on.

  22. It's sad to say but it's not really safe to be anywhere by yourself. Especially not at night. Not implying that you should never go out by yourself but to be aware of your surroundings. That's what my mom always says. And I'm a mom myself :)

  23. I wouldn't do it. you are opening the door to getting hurt by going out alone after midnight.

  24. If you are in India the answer is "Do not even think about it!"
