Hi, I recently planned for a trip to Bangkok, Thailand... will be there starting the 6th. Through the stories of demonstrations, tear gas, rail and airports being closed, I'm not sure if it's still a great idea...

Anyone in Bangkok has first hand information?

Is it really that bad?

Are skytrains and shopping malls targets of the activists?

Any information would be most appreciated. Thank you very much.

  1. It's safe for tourist.  However the situation is getting worst by the hour.  Airports may be closed again soon, roads blocked, train service stopped.  Also unions who support the protesters are planning to stop bus service in Bangkok.  I recommend you put off your trip to another time if possible.

  2. I was there Sunday all day and half day today - - no problems - I think as long as you avoid the very few places where there are problems, you will be 100% fine - - please remember that during the last coup, nobody was hurt - and there are many many expats living in bkk who would not even think of fleeing - - even the Thai people that i was with, including taxi drivers, were not even talking abt it - - they seem bored with the whole thing - - you'll be fine - - and probably in more danger in most cities of the world - -

  3. Hello im ment to be going to Thailand soon to, The first week of October. Im thinking that you will be ok for the next few weeks but im really as concerned as you. If you hear any thing please let me know and if things get to full on there remember you can just come home. Thailand is a sof gentel and safe country so as far and terrorist attacks go im sure it will be fine.

  4. I live here.  It is not bad at all.  If you don't go to the government buildings, no problem!

No one is 'targeting' anything.  Only  3 small airports were closed, and at least 2 (maybe all 3) are now open.  Both airports in BKK are operating as normal.

For the vast majority of people here, the whole thing is a non-issue.
