ive had braces since february, just yesterday i went and i got my tongue pierced, my sister is constantly telling me that its going to mess with my braces, and make them crooked again, i looked online at some websites, and they say that they dont change the shape of it, it only removes enamel if you like to run the tongue ring along your teeth.

has anyone had this experience before? please let me know, because i dont want to feel like i just wasted money to get it and now i have to take it out.......

  1. The tongue ring won't affect how the braces work on your teeth... but you're right about it removing enamel so be very careful. There are constantly questions on here about people who have chipped, cracked or even broken a tooth off from accidentally biting the ring.

  2. Regardless of what you may read, hear about or see on TV tongue rings are NOT a safe and healthy bodily accessory.

While it may not interfere directly with your braces it can lead to massive infection and swelling which could definitely interfere with your ortho procedures.

Furthermore, it interferes with basic lingual performance.  Think daffy duck.
