  1. As long as the AC unit is grounded properly then it is just as safe as running the furnace, or any other appliance.

  2. yes its ok

  3. I have never heard of this.  I always leave mine on when I'm home, even if it's storming.  Why is it bad?

  4. NO ITS NOT. U WILL CATCH ON FIRE

  5. Noo its nott... Hunny if you keep that thing running during a thunderstrom its going to FRY the hard drive and thats $300 worth of stupid goin down the drain. No offence

  6. To me, it seems as though it's not safe to leave anything on during a thunderstorm. We've had a TV and a couple of DSL modems go to h**l, due to close lightning blasts. And it seems like most of the time now, our internet connection or cable gets lost for a few moments. I dunno about AC though...we've never had one of those fry yet.

  7. properly grounded the AC unit, then it should never be a problem in times of lightning. thats the simples explanation i can give to you..

if you want more detail, why?how?what to do? then you should post this same question under engineering category..lots of exp engineer there can help..

  8. the most vulnerable appliance should be the Television because of its antenna, which have the greatest possibility to be hit by the lightning,

    so turn off the TV

and make sure your fuse is fine and there are no causes for short circuits

  9. I hear ya nuts!!! Mine goes off EVERY TIME I see lighting. It's called power surge people. Yes it can be like running the furnace, however, not much lightning when it snows!!! I hate the dark. lol

  10. Really the worst that might happen is that lightning might strike your electric line in & then it would burn up the motor & compressor in the AC unit pluse anything else that was plugged in like the fridge, TV, Stereo, Waterheater, Alarm clock, Stereo, Well anything that is connected when ther lightning struck. I think that the likelihood of this happening is very rare but your computer is probably more sensitive to electerical flucuations than anything else so I would unplug it & not worry about anything else, Thomas
