Is it safe to melt Plastic #4,LDPE, or use repurposed handmade plastic items?

I see lots of people making & have read how to's on melting layers of plastic #4 together with an iron on medium heat. Is this really safe? and if so, how do you know you haven't made a product that has exposed more toxins to the new user?

i dont think so. u can light ur house on fire and theres probly toxin
