Or do I have to turn it off even if I move it slowly and not hit it anywhere?

  1. It is fine to move your laptop while it is one. Just don't start doing somersaults or backflips while holding it ;)

If you are going to move it to a farther location, you can just fold your laptop (only if your laptop settings are not to shut down when you fold it). I, myself, don't turn my laptop off much. I just carry it around in folded and in sleep mode.

  2. By on -- you mean with the case open and screen bright, right? If you have the screen closed, the hard drive becomes protected and sleeps, and its' totally fine to move it.

If it's open, though, you shouldn't, but if you must, make sure you don't have any disks in the optical drive (like a DVD you might have paused). If you do, get em out first. Make sure the hard drive is not spinning (you'll hear it whining if it is). And have a steady hand. As long as you don't drop the thing, you'll be fine ;)

  3. Although my user manual says it isn't I move it all the time without turning it off. I haven't had any problems (yet). I just try to avoid hard shocks since they could harm the hard disk.
