Is it safe to open an online acct with HSBC?

I was thinking of opening a savings acct online at HSBC (the interest rate is higher than anything I'm earning). I don't think we have an HSBC in my state, so I could never go to a branch or their ATMs. Do you have one? Is it safe? Is it worth it?

If any bank is to be trusted internationally, it is HSBC. So of any online play on banks, HSBC is probably your safest bet of all of them. Including local brick and mortar banks. Just make sure you are dealing with HSBC and not a scam online site. Call HSBC to make sure the offer is legit.
