my rent is due now and dont have enough to pay.(my husband lost hes job and did not have a savings or any other source of income) so i ve been thinking about taking my computer, and some other stuff(IPod,Stereo,T.V) to the pawn shop, because i dont want to sell my stuff. i have 3 months to buy it back( w/interest of course)the computer has all my info on it, so i was wondering what the risks would be of me pawning my computer. im almost sure its ok but just wanted a second opinion thx

  1. Oh, this is totally unsafe.  Pawning most computers built after 1998 (Basically, if your OS is Windows 98SE or later) can cause your computer to explode due to a fundamental flaw in the Windows programming!  NEVER DO THIS you are endangering your own or someone else's life!

  2. FYI... when you pawn your computer they do clean it, especially if they plan to sell.  They will restore all the settings back to original.  Anything you have on the computer would be lost.

  3. Ok, if it is a legit pawn broker, you are completely safe in pawning the computer.  You probably won't get much out of any of your items, because they are cheapskates  LOL... but I've had to use them before myself.  You're information is pretty safe, unless you do not redeem your loan.  That's where the trouble could turn up.  If you don't redeem your loan, someone else could purchase your computer and may get your information.

Just be cautious, and be sure that you're going to be able to buy it back before you let it go with all your info intact.

(And just because you "pawn" it, does not make it "explode")

  4. Before you pawn the computer, print several copies of all important documents you stored on the computer, in case you need them before or after, you you pawn the computer.

You will have hard copies of the documents for your files, in case you need them.  You can also save the documents

as a WORD file and print them, before you pawn the computer.

  5. LOL Kenny!!
