I'm going to be studying abroad in New Zealand and I'm not sure if it's safe to use a splitter attached to a power converter. Can anyone recommend a way for me to plug in a few things at once without causing a black out... ideas for good brands of adapters maybe?

  1. Absolutley, Go to your nearest AA (Auto Association) when you get here, they have a selection of adaptors from around the world.

  2. First of all, you'll need a voltage converter.  I'm not sure a power strip would be a good idea if you're going to be operating a few items at once.

If there is more than one outlet, I'd recommend plugging into different ones (with additional converters, of course).

  3. No.  The average travel power conversion device is designed and intended for a single travel appliance like a shaver or small hair dryer, not for larger household appliances.  Definitely not intended for multiple appliances at one time.  Many devices like your computer have voltage switches and new power cords can be purchased.
