My friend and I are going to ride our bikes to the beach today and we're supposed to get thunderstorms today, (and we've already had some). Do you think it's safe?

  1. No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  2. Yes, it's safe. The risks of being hit are minimal. It is FUN to ride in a thunderstorm and that's what matters!

  3. No, If it hits the floor the rubber will insulate the electricity but if you are on an open road with nothing around yo, lightning will go for the tallest object around and even if it does not hit you objects or trees could collapse on top of you.

  4. It amazes me how a small piece of metal is supposed to increase the risk of being struck by lightning.  I have a large oak tree in my front yard which is certainly older than 100 years and I have a large poplar tree in my back yard that is around 75 years old.  Somehow both these trees have escaped being hit by lighting even though they are the highest objects around.   I suspect you have a greater chance of being hit by an angry bird than the increased risk caused by a small piece of metal.

  5. No, bicycles are primarily made of metal and as you may well know, metal is an excellent conductor of electricity. In fact, it isn't even a good idea to be outside at all during a thunderstorm, especially if you are riding a bike. It would be a lot better to wait for any storms to pass through before going outside. The risk of being struck is not extremely high, but it is certainly there and is not worth the risk.
