Will it harm an electric sauna stove if it gets wet when it's not on?

Also is there a simple reason why the stove will shut off automatically after about 15 minutes even if the timer is set to an hour or more? We think it might be a problem with the sensor that's mounted on the wall that we assume measures the temperature as a safety shut off kinda thing. Thanks!

  1. I wouldn't recommend it.  There is likely still a live electrical circuit that is just being interrupted with a switch.  Also, if water collects in the heater, it might short-circuit once turned on.  Water and electricity usually don't play nicely, especially when you put yourself in the equation.

There might be a temperature shutoff as a safety, or there might be a time-limit safety.  It's awfully easy to set the timer for an hour, bake 15 minutes, then walk away and leave an unattended heat source for 45 minutes... The 15-minute limit might be in place for just that reason.

Then again, it all depends on your installation.  In this case, I would certainly err on the side of caution.
